Degree

Southern Crescent Technical College (SCTC) offers associate of applied science (AAS) degrees, and also has articulation agreements with other colleges for selected associate degrees. Degree-level general core courses focus on higher levels of learning in mathematics, English composition and literature, social sciences, public speaking, and computer literacy. Students graduating with an AAS degree may join the workforce upon graduation or may seek additional education by transferring to a four-year college or university.

Diploma

Students completing a diploma program at the college are required to satisfactorily complete at least 13 credit hours in general core courses. For the diploma-seeking student, that course of study typically consists of an appropriate course in mathematics, English, psychology, and computer literacy. This requirement is based upon the belief that to be well-trained is not enough. Today’s graduate must also be competent in the use of written and spoken language, possess adequate computational skills, have good interpersonal skills and be able to use computers to solve problems.

Certificate

Students seeking a technical certificate will complete a coherent grouping of courses taken from a state-approved post secondary standard curriculum. These certificates will provide students with a short-term program of study geared toward a specific occupational position. The technical certificate program will be at least 15 quarter credit hours in length and will not exceed 59 quarter credit hours.

All degree, diploma, and technical certificate programs require applicants to meet general admission requirements and, unless noted, must also:

  1. Present official documentation of an earned high school diploma, GED, or college degree.
  2. Present acceptable ASSET, COMPASS, SAT, or ACT scores taken within the last five years, or transfer of program level English and mathematics from a regionally-accredited college or university with a grade of C or better.

Southern Crescent Technical College strives to provide the most up-to-date curriculum that will meet the needs of graduates who plan to enter the workforce. To accomplish this mission, curriculum changes are needed on occasion. Please refer to the latest catalog/handbook addendum for an update on all curriculum changes.

All diploma and degree programs and some certificate programs require both general core and technical core classes. Please note that general core classes may be added or deleted due to the availability of properly-credentialed instructors in these subject areas. Southern Crescent Technical College will offer the minimum required general core classes, so students will be able to complete a program of study in a timely manner. In addition, the College will offer as many general core choices and options as instructor availability allows.
