SCTC Academy FAQs

Am I eligible for the Career Plus Program?

To be eligible for the Career Plus Program:

  • Participants must be Georgia residents
  • Must be 18 or older
  • Participants from 18 to 20-years-of-age must have completed no more than 5 high school credits to qualify
  • Must be withdrawn from high school
  • Must be enrolled in SCTC’s adult education program
  • Must meet qualifying cut scores on Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) taken during orientation

To enroll in the Career Plus program:
All students MUST complete the Adult Education “Become a Student” Form and follow the instructions for completing the Adult Education application. Once the application is complete, students must contact the campus closest to them to schedule the mandatory orientation session. During orientation, students will be instructed on how to express interest in the Career Plus program. The Career Plus Coordinator will contact all interested students after orientation is complete.

CPH students are eligible to enroll in any certificate, diploma, or degree program that SCTC offers with the exception of Allied Health programs that require entrance assessment scores and/or credentials for entry.

The CPH high school courses are free of charge. As for the college courses, tuition costs vary based on the number of credit hours a student is taking. Each CPH student completes a free Georgia Student Finance Commission application to determine qualification for student financial assistance from the state (HOPE Grant, HOPE Career Grant, and Zell Miller). Any assistance that is awarded is automatically applied to the student’s account to cover costs for tuition and fees. CPH students also have access to the Georgia Power Reimbursement Fund, for reimbursement on all school-related expenses, including tuition.

Yes! The graduation process is initiated the term before the student’s last term of classes. All CPH students are guided through the graduation process with the Career Plus Coordinator. Graduation is typically held on the second weekend in May. Students must complete all nine high school credits and required credits from their program(s) to be awarded their high school diploma and college credential.

Transcripts must be requested from the last high school attended and submitted directly to the Career Plus Coordinator for transcript evaluation. If the student is not able to submit a transcript, the student must obtain all nine of the required high school credits with SCTC Academy. Only official transcripts (signed, stamped, and sent directly from the authorized institution to SCTC or the Career Plus Coordinator) will be accepted for evaluation. SCTC cannot accept unofficial copies from students or other parties outside of the authorized institution.

Completion of the program varies based on college program selection and number of high school credits upon entry into the program. For a student that needs all nine high school credits, there is an 18-month estimated time of completion.
