Dr. Roslyn Johnson-McCurry Receives Rick Perkins Award

Dr. Roslyn Johnson-McCurry, Early Childhood Education Instructor at Southern Crescent Technical College, recently received the 2017 Rick Perkins Award for Excellence in Technical Education. The Rick Perkins Award is the equivalent to being named Teacher of the Year at Southern Crescent Technical College.

Dr. Johnson-McCurry stated, "I am extremely honored to be named the Rick Perkins Award winner for Southern Crescent Technical College, although I share this great honor with all of the dedicated instructors at the College.”

Dr. Johnson-McCurry was nominated for the Rick Perkins Award by her fellow instructors at Southern Crescent Technical College. Dr. Alvetta Thomas, President of Southern Crescent Technical College, stated, “Dr. Roslyn Johnson-McCurry has been recognized as Southern Crescent Technical College’s Rick Perkins winner because of her conscientiousness and genuine commitment as an instructor.  I have witnessed her dedication to student learning, high professional standards, and cooperative spirit.  Her teaching methods and techniques are innovative and she encourages her students to achieve at their highest level. Roslyn is an excellent representation of the quality faculty and staff at Southern Crescent Technical College and I could not be more pleased with her award.”

Johnson-McCurry and other nominees were judged by a group of outside individuals. After winning the school title, she will represent Southern Crescent Technical College as an ambassador for technical education and will compete on the consortium and state level. The state Rick Perkins winner will be announced in April.
