Congratulations to Southern Crescent Technical College student Kayla Mosquera for being named GCAA (Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association) Division III Player of the Year for the 2017-2018 season. Also, Southern Crescent Technical College men’s basketball head coach Calvin Sinkfield has been named Coach of the Year for the division.
Kayla Mosquera, a Business Management student on the Griffin Campus, led the SCTC women’s basketball team with an average of 19.7 points per game. She was named Player of the Week for the division four times during the season. The women’s team recently finished the regular season second in the GCAA Division III Conference.
Calvin Sinkfield, SCTC Athletic Coordinator and head men’s basketball coach, was named Men’s Coach of the Year for the 2017-2018 Season. Mr. Sinkfield is a Griffin native and has been the men’s head coach for six years.
Southern Crescent Technical College began offering athletic programs in 2009. What began as Co-Ed Intramural Basketball evolved into the College joining the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region VII in 2011 as Division III GCAA members.
“I’m enormously proud of these students’ achievements, both in the classroom and on the court. We are looking forward to more success in our athletic department led by Mr. Sinkfield,” said Dr. Alvetta P. Thomas, Southern Crescent Technical College President.
Also named to the All-Region teams for the 2017-2018 season from Southern Crescent Technical College are the following: First Team – Elijah Johnson for the men and Kayla Mosquera and Destiny Murph for the women; Second Team: Brendon Tyler, Stevantae Cromer, and Carlos Waters for the men. Adriana Fajardo from the women’s team has been named to the Honorable Mention All Region team. Named to the All-Defensive team is Elijah Johnson and Brendon Tyler for the men and Alexandria Brown for the women. The All Academic Team recognizes Sophomores that achieved a 3.0GPA over three academic terms with Terry Hendrerson, Jr. for the men and Destiny Murph for the women being named. Congratulations to all these players for a wonderful season.
