SCTC Foundation Awards Fall Semester Scholarships

SCTC Foundation

The Southern Crescent Technical College Foundation awarded 82 scholarships totaling $31,350.00 for students enrolled in the College for Fall Semester 2018.

Of those, the Foundation awarded 49 Internal Tiger Campaign scholarships totaling $16,850.  Internal scholarships are funded from contributions from the SCTC faculty and staff primarily thorough monthly payroll deduction to the Internal Fundraising Campaign. In addition, the Foundation awarded 33 external scholarships totaling $14,500. External scholarships are funded from contributions from business partners, foundations and generous donors within our service community as well as SCTC faculty and staff for program-specific scholarships not included in the Internal Tiger Campaign.

The Bill Walden Memorial Textbook Scholarship is a $300 textbook scholarship established in memory of former SCTC Business Management instructor Bill Walden for his commitment and contributions to the College. The Foundation awarded 20 $300 scholarships for a total of $5,000.  Those receiving the scholarship for the Fall 2018 Semester are:

The High School-to-College Textbook Scholarship is a $300 textbook scholarship awarded to a recent high school graduate (graduated within the last 24 months) who is enrolled at Southern Crescent Technical College. The Foundation awarded one $300 scholarship for the Fall 2018 Semester to:

The John Bradley Memorial Toolbox Scholarship is a $250 toolbox scholarship for the purchase of program-required tools, uniforms, equipment, and/or supplies. Established in memory of John Bradley, former Automotive Collision and Repair instructor at the College, who died of cancer in 2006. The Foundation awarded 20 $250 scholarships for a total of $5,000.  Those receiving the scholarship for Fall 2018 Semester are:

The Monster Tigers Tuition Scholarship is a $900 tuition scholarship to a student who is not eligible for the HOPE Grant/Scholarship, WIOA and/or The PELL Grant and/or any other financial aid. The Trevor Alexander Memorial Tuition Scholarship is a $250 tuition and fees scholarship to a student who is eligible for the HOPE Grant/Scholarship but is not eligible for The PELL Grant. Established in memory of Trevor Alexander, an Assessment Specialist at the College, who died of cancer in August 2013. The Foundation awarded one $250 for Fall 2018 Semester to:

The Griffin Utility Club RN Scholarship is a $250 tuition and fees scholarship to a female student from Spalding County who is in the Registered Nursing program. The Griffin Utility Club dissolved in 2017 after more than 90 years of volunteer service to the Griffin-Spalding County community and the club dispersed the assets to organizations the club supported. The Foundation awarded one $250 for Fall 2018 Semester to:

The Georgia Power Company Scholarship is a $250 toolbox scholarship funded by Georgia Power Company for the purchase of program-required tools, uniforms and/or equipment. The Lespedeza Fund Scholarship, honoring the memory of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Allen and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Johnson, is a $1,000 tuition, textbook and toolbox need-based scholarship awarded to a first-generation student (defined as a student whose parent(s)/legal guardian(s) have not completed a degree or any education beyond high school. This means that you are the first in your family to attend college to attain a certificate, diploma or degree) enrolled in one of the following programs: Allied Health, Business Technology, Criminal Justice, Industrial Systems Technology and Logistics and Supply Chain Management. The Foundation awarded six $1,000 scholarships for a total of $6,000.  Those receiving the scholarship for Fall 2018 Semester are:

The Mary Zager Memorial Scholarship is a $250 tuition, textbook and toolbox scholarship. Established in memory of Mary Zager, an active volunteer in the Griffin community and a strong advocate for education who had a passion for life and work. The Foundation awarded one $250 scholarship for the Fall 2018 Semester to:

The Justin Peeples Memorial CIS Scholarship a $250 textbook and toolbox scholarship awarded to a student in the Computer Information Systems program. Established in memory of Justin Peeples, a Computer Network Specialist student at the College. Justin died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in 2011.

The Schyla Avery Memorial Textbook & Toolbox Scholarship is a $250 scholarship awarded for the purchase of program required textbooks, uniforms, equipment, and/or supplies to a student pursuing a degree in Respiratory Care. Established in memory of Schyla Nicole Avery, who received an AAS degree in Respiratory Care from the College, and died in a tragic house fire in 2011. The Stephen Lee Memorial Textbook & Toolbox Scholarship  is a $250 textbook and toolbox scholarship for the purchase of program-required textbooks, tools, uniforms, equipment, and/or supplies. Established in memory of Stephen Lee, a 2006 Griffin Tech graduate, who passed in June 2016. The Foundation awarded two $250 scholarships for a total of $500. Student must be a Georgia resident and must live in one of the six counties Upson EMC serves: Crawford, Pike, Meriwether, Talbot, Taylor and Upson. The Foundation awarded one $250 scholarship for the Fall 2018 Semester to:

The Walker Cook Jr. Memorial Scholarship is a $250 tuition, textbook and toolbox scholarship. Established in memory of Walker Cook, Jr., who passed away in 2017, former Griffin resident and husband of Barbara Jo Cook, V.P. for Advancement at SCTC. Walker was a life-long educator who believed education improved the quality of life for individuals and communities. List of books, tools/supplies with cost estimate required with application.
