SCTC Foundation Welcomes Three New Trustees

The Southern Crescent Technical College Foundation is pleased to announce the addition of three new Trustees to the Foundation Board: Gail Gardner of Spalding County, James Atkins of Henry County, and Bobby Bickley of Upson County.  The Foundation is governed by a local board of trustees who represent positive leadership and community influence throughout the College’s eight-county service area of Butts, Fayette, Henry, Jasper, Lamar, Pike, Spalding, and Upson.  By serving as advisors in the advancement of the College. The Board of Trustees plans and implements resource development to improve programs and recognition for Southern Crescent Technical College.

As a new Trustee representing Spalding County, Gail Gardner has lived in Griffin for 22 years.  Married to Tom Gardner, Gail and Tom are the parents of two adult children.  She is an active member of the First Baptist Church of Griffin where she serves as an ordained deacon.  From 2005 to 2015, Gail served as the Vice President of Gardner–King, Inc.  While living in North Carolina, Gail was employed at a private college for six years and served as the Secretary to the Registrar and later as the Administrative Assistant to the Registrar and Assistant Dean of the College.  Both positions kept her in constant contact with students, and her interest in the internal workings of higher education and the students in higher education was born from her work in these positions. 

Representing Henry County, James W. Atkins is the Chief Operating Officer for Piedmont Henry Hospital.  As a Registered Pharmacist, James has thirty years of experience in hospitals as a clinician and administrative leader.  In addition, he has been an adjunct faculty member at Mercer University Southern School of Pharmacy, the University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy, and Emory University School of Medicine.  Holding a Doctorate and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration, James is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives.   

 The newest Trustee representing Upson County on the Southern Crescent Technical College Foundation Board of Trustees is Bobby Bickley.  Born and raised in Thomaston, Bobby graduated from Upson-Lee High School and Columbus State University with a degree in Business Management.  His work experience includes working for South Crest Bank, the Raceway Convenience Store, and Pike County where he serves as County Manager.  Married to Maryann, he and his wife have two children.  Bobby is heavily involved with his community by being a member of the SERTOMA Club, participating in Leadership Upson, and serving on the Thomaston-Upson Chamber of Commerce Board.  He and six of his friends started Smoke on the Water which is a community event that benefits six rural volunteer fire departments.

In addition to the three new Trustees, the Foundation Board has new officers who will serve for two years.  The officers include Hoppy Hopkins, Chair; Jack Bowdoin, Vice Chair; Janice Moore English, Secretary; and Reshann Adams, Treasurer.
