Southern Crescent Technical College (SCTC) Student Veterans of America (SVA) chapter presented a check for $345.00 to Griffin WAYPOINT at an award ceremony held on July 27, 2017 at the SCTC Veterans Affairs Center on the Griffin Campus. The donation was made possible partly through funds raised during the Armed Forces Day Car Show fund raiser held on May 20, 2017.

It was determined prior to the car show that a portion of the net proceeds from this event were to be presented to a local military chapter.  After reviewing the local charities, it was voted on and approved by the SCTC SVA to donate $150.00 to Griffin WAYPOINT.  Following that presentation, Dr. Alvetta Thomas, President of Southern Crescent Technical College surprised Ms. Sandra Brownlee from Griffin WAYPOINT with an additional $195.00 donation which was collected from the generous donations of faculty and staff of Southern Crescent Technical College. This brought the grand total to $345.00 donated from the students, faculty and staff of Southern Crescent Technical College.

During this event, Mr. David C. Keener, Past President, SVA, SCTC Chapter and Mr. Clinton Butler, Vice President, SVA, SCTC Chapter made the presentation to Brownlee and each reflected on the significant role that the SCTC SVA Chapter plays in advocating for veterans. Brownlee thanked those in attendance for the generous donation and commented that this gift will “go a long way toward helping veterans in our community.”

WAYPOINTS are sanctuary centers for Veterans designed to provide an integrated continuum of care that emphasizes access, quality, effectiveness, efficiency, and compassion.  These attributes of Griffin WAYPOINT were the determining factors in Student Veterans of America choosing to honor them with this donation.
