Southern Crescent Technical College President Dr. Alvetta Thomas is pleased to announce the recent appointment of Merry Heath to the College’s Board of Directors. Heath was sworn in by Spalding County Probate Judge Jan Hunt at the May 10th meeting.

Heath currently serves as the Chief Nursing Officer at Piedmont Fayette Hospital and will represent Fayette County on the board.

“I am pleased to welcome Merry to the Southern Crescent Technical College Board of Directors,” Dr. Thomas stated.   “With an extensive career in the medical field, she has a deep understanding of our needs and challenges as well as the demands and requirements of the medical community for which our students are training. Her industry insight and knowledge will be invaluable as we move forward in executing our vision for the college,” Dr. Thomas concluded.

The Southern Crescent Technical College Board of Directors serves both in a community advisory capacity and in a limited administrative capacity, performing certain oversight responsibilities as designated by State Board policy. The local Board is comprised of 14 members from the business and industrial communities from eight counties in the service area comprised of Butts, Fayette, Henry, Jasper, Lamar, Pike, Spalding, and Upson counties. State Board Policy defines the role and responsibilities of the local Board. Board members are selected because of their experience, ability, and dedication to deal with issues that relate to the mission of occupational education and are without contractual, employment, or personal financial investment in the school.

“It is indeed an honor and a privilege to have been chosen to serve on the Board of Directors of Southern Crescent Technical College,” Heath said.  “Southern Crescent Technical College does great things for the communities it serves and I’m excited about the opportunity to work with the other board members as SCTC continues to provide quality educational opportunities for its students,” she stated.
