SkillsUSA Students Win Big at State Competition

Twenty-three outstanding students recently attended the SkillsUSA Georgia State Conference and Competition representing Southern Crescent Technical College. The conference, held March 22-24 in Atlanta, Georgia was attended by students and advisors from technical colleges around the state. Students competed against approximately 400 others in various areas including leadership, health, trade and technical competitions.

Southern Crescent Technical College returned from the competition with four medals overall including a clean sweep in the Plumbing competition. Winners from Southern Crescent Technical College included Plumbing Gold Medal – Collin Creel; Plumbing Silver Medal – Aric Lundy; Plumbing Bronze Medal – Andrew Monroy; and Practical Nursing Bronze Medal – Brittani Reheiser. In addition, the SCTC SkillsUSA Chapter received the Quality Chapter Award for Chapter Excellence.

The first place winners from this competition will be attending the National SkillsUSA Conference in Louisville, Kentucky June 25-29, 2018. There, they will compete against winners from all across the nation in the largest display of skills training in the country.

SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers, and industry representatives working together to ensure America has a skilled work force. They are a national nonprofit organization serving teachers and college students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical, and skilled service occupations, including health occupations.
