SkillsUSA Students Win Big at State Competition

Nineteen outstanding students recently attended the SkillsUSA Georgia State Conference and Competition representing Southern Crescent Technical College. The conference, held March 21-23, 2019 in Atlanta, Georgia was attended by students and advisors from technical colleges around the state. Students competed against approximately 400 others in various areas including leadership, health, trade and technical competitions.

Southern Crescent Technical College returned from the competition with five medals overall. Winners from Southern Crescent Technical College included Aric Lundy – Plumbing Gold Medalist - Billy Elliott, Instructor; Cierra Campbell – Culinary Arts Silver Medalist - Patrick Boutier, Instructor; Edriria Pope – Criminal Justice Silver Medalist - Reginald Sutton, Instructor; Benjamin Harper – Diesel Equipment Bronze Medalist - Edward Boronkas, Instructor; Jonathan Riley – Industrial Motor Controls Bronze Medalist - Johnny Dodson, Instructor.

The first place winners from this competition will be attending the National SkillsUSA Conference in Louisville, Kentucky June 24-28, 2019. There, they will compete against winners from all across the nation in the largest display of skills training in the country.

SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers, and industry representatives working together to ensure America has a skilled work force. They are a national nonprofit organization serving teachers and college students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical, and skilled service occupations, including health occupations.
