SCTC SkillsUSA Students Win Big at State Competition

Nine outstanding SCTC students recently attended the SkillsUSA Georgia State Conference and Competition representing Southern Crescent Technical College. The conference, held March 23-25 in Atlanta, Georgia was attended by students and advisors from other technical colleges around the state. Students competed against approximately 400 others in various areas including leadership, health, trade and technical competitions.

Southern Crescent Technical College returned from the competition with a total of three medals - one gold and two silver. Winners from Southern Crescent Technical College included Trevor Boykin – Gold – Plumbing; Mary Holmes – Silver – Baking; and Heather Elliott – Silver – Medical Assisting.  Also competing but not placing were Hitoshi Hanley – Culinary, Kesceylia Williams – Job Interview, Parthena Stokes – Customer Service, Kyle Smoot – Welding, Debra Smith – Early Childhood Education, and Mark Booker – Practical Nursing.  The first place winner will be attending the National SkillsUSA Conference in Louisville, Kentucky June 19-23.  There, they will compete against winners from all across the nation in the largest display of skills training in the country.

SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers, and industry representatives working together to ensure America has a skilled work force. They are a national nonprofit organization serving teachers and college students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical, and skilled service occupations, including health occupations.
