Commencement Information

The commencement ceremony will be held on Thursday, December 7, 2017 @ 6:00 pm. 

Location:  Thomaston Upson Civic Center, 101 Civic Center Drive  Thomaston, GA 30286 

 

Student Check In:  Students must report promptly to the front lobby of the Civic Center for the rehearsal at 3:00 pm.   All students must have caps and gowns ready for the Ceremony (Please leave valuables with family or friends)

Rehearsal for students:  4:00 pm

5:55 p.m. – Ceremony begins with an academic processional
Graduation Workshop

To participate in commencement ceremony, attendance at a senior seminar meeting is MANDATORY along with the payment of the $40.00 non-refundable processing fee.

Caps and Gowns

All students participating in the ceremony, must pay a separate $35.00 (cash only)  cap/gown fee to the Balfour Representative on the designated pick up dates.   All candidates for graduation will wear black robes, caps, and tassels.  Cap and gown size is determined by height and weight.

The designated times caps and gowns will be available for pick up at the Griffin or Thomaston campus will be announced at the mandatory commencement meetings.

Honor Cords

Candidates for graduation with an overall, cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 4.0 are entitled to wear gold honor with distinction medallions during the Commencement ceremony.

Candidates with an overall, cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.75 – 3.99 are entitled to wear gold honor cords during the Commencement ceremony.

The GPA used in determining eligibility for this honor will be the student’s current cumulative, overall GPA at the time of the mandatory commencement meetings. This grade point average (GPA) will be verified prior to the commencement meetings. The honor regalia is provided by the college and will be presented to the respective graduates at the commencement ceremony.

Cords and tassels for the members of the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) are distributed by the advisors of the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS).

Suggestions for Dress

Southern Crescent Technical College does not have a formal dress code for graduates. However, we do ask that graduates respect the significance of the day and dress appropriately.  Suggested dress information will be provided at the cap and gown pick up.

Tassel Placement

Candidates for graduation will wear tassels on the right sides of their caps until all degrees, diplomas and certificates have been announced by the Southern Crescent Technical College President.  After the conferral, graduates will grasp the tassel with the left hand and transfer it to the left side of the cap.

Announcements

Southern Crescent  Technical College does not offer announcements for graduates to purchase at this time.

Class Rings

Information regarding class rings may be available through the Balfour Representative on cap and gown pick up dates.

 Tickets

  • No tickets are required.
  • Seats are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

 Special Assistance

Graduates who require special assistance at the commencement ceremony may contact the Registrar for more information.  The representatives from Disability Services will also be available at the Commencement ceremony.

The college is unable to reserve seating for guests with special needs. Please arrive early if you have specific seating needs.

Photos

Professional photo packets are available for purchase through Rick Blackshear Photography on the day of the commencement ceremony.

Personal photographs may be taken during the commencement ceremony. However, guests and graduates may be restricted from photographing from certain areas.
