Dr. Alvetta Peterman Thomas Named President Emeritus of the Technical College System of Georgia

Griffin, GA – Southern Crescent Technical College proudly celebrates Dr. Alvetta Peterman Thomas, who has been named President Emeritus of the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG). This prestigious honor was officially bestowed by the State Board of the Technical College System of Georgia on October 28, 2025, in Savannah, Georgia.

Dr. Thomas has dedicated her distinguished career to advancing educational opportunities, fostering leadership, and championing workforce development throughout Georgia and beyond. Her visionary leadership has left a lasting impact on the Technical College System of Georgia, shaping programs and partnerships that continue to serve students, businesses, and communities across the state.

As President of Southern Crescent Technical College from 2016 to 2021, Dr. Thomas provided exemplary leadership, overseeing a $30 million budget and guiding the college through a period of remarkable growth and innovation. Under her direction, Southern Crescent Technical College achieved significant improvements in key performance indicators, expanded business and industry partnerships, and launched innovative academic programs designed to prepare students for high-demand careers.

Dr. Thomas has been recognized by numerous organizations for her outstanding contributions to education and leadership. Her honors include recognition from the National Science Foundation, the U.S. House of Representatives, the City of Atlanta, and the Atlanta Business League. She has received notable accolades such as being named an Outstanding Georgia Citizen by the Georgia Secretary of State and receiving the Unsung Hero Award from the Ford Motor Company.
