Southern Crescent Technical College (SCTC) is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Tonya F. Whitlock as the College’s new Vice President for Enrollment Management, effective September 1, 2025. Dr. Whitlock brings nearly three decades of leadership experience in technical education, combined with a strong background in industry, community engagement, and student-focused service.
Dr. Whitlock began her career in technical education in 1996 and has served in a variety of leadership roles, including Instructor, Evening Program Manager, Adult Education Director, Campus Director, Associate Provost, and most recently, Vice President of Student Affairs at West Georgia Technical College. She has also worked for West Central Technical College and Southern Polytechnic State University.
Before entering higher education, Dr. Whitlock was an Industrial Engineer and Project Manager for several medium-sized manufacturing companies. She earned her A.S. in Industrial Engineering, B.S. in Apparel/Textile Engineering, and M.S. in Technical Management from Southern Polytechnic State University (now Kennesaw State University), and holds a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership-Higher Education from Mercer University.
Her professional affiliations include membership in the Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE), Southern Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admission Officers (SACRAO), Georgia Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admission Officers (GACRAO), National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA), and the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA). She has served on numerous boards and committees, including literacy councils, chambers of commerce, educational foundations, and civic organizations.
Deeply committed to community service, Dr. Whitlock has held leadership roles such as President of the Continental Societies, Inc., Chair of the High School Community Service Team for the Coweta Community Foundation, and multiple positions with the Newnan-Coweta Chamber of Commerce, where she served as 2019 Chair and was honored with the Chairman’s Award in 2017. She is also a graduate of Leadership Haralson, Leadership Coweta, and the State Executive Leadership Academy.
A native of Valdosta, Georgia, Dr. Whitlock resides in Newnan with her husband of over 30 years and their daughter. In her free time, she enjoys reading, traveling, and serving in her church community, where she has been a Christian Education Director, Youth Advisor, Sunday School Teacher, and Church Secretary.
SCTC President Dr. Irvin Clark expressed his enthusiasm for Dr. Whitlock’s arrival, stating, “Dr. Whitlock is a proven leader with a servant’s heart and a passion for helping others achieve their goals. Her depth of experience in student affairs, enrollment management, and community engagement will be instrumental as we continue to expand access to education and support student success at Southern Crescent Technical College.”
Dr. Whitlock shared her excitement about joining SCTC, “I am honored to join Southern Crescent Technical College and to serve alongside such a dedicated team. I look forward to building relationships with our students, faculty, staff, and community partners as we work together to create pathways for success.”
