The Dollar General Literacy Foundation recently awarded the Southern Crescent Technical College Foundation a $9,982 grant to support adult literacy initiatives. The funds are part of a record-setting, one-day donation totaling more than $13.2 million to support adult, family, and summer literacy programs across the 48 states where Dollar General operates.
“This grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation will provide meaningful support to Adult Education students in Spalding County who are working toward earning their GED,” said Dr. Irvin T. Clark. “By helping cover GED testing fees, these funds will remove financial barriers that often prevent students from completing their educational goals. We are grateful for this investment in our students and our community.”
The grant will provide approximately 217 individual GED subject exam scholarships to students needing financial assistance. Scholarships will be awarded based on established criteria, including financial need and academic merit, with priority given to students demonstrating financial hardship and a strong commitment to completing their GED credentials. By reducing the financial burden associated with GED testing, the grant will help improve student retention and support learners as they pursue higher education and career advancement opportunities.
“Adult education changes lives by opening doors to employment, postsecondary education, and long-term economic stability,” said Steve Hendrix, Vice President of Adult Education at Southern Crescent Technical College. “This funding will allow more students in Spalding County to complete their GED exams and continue moving forward toward brighter futures for themselves and their families.”
“On behalf of the Southern Crescent Technical College Foundation, we would like to thank the Dollar General Literacy Foundation for their continued support of Adult Education students in Spalding County,” said Montrese Adger Fuller, Vice President of Institutional Advancement. “The Foundation is truly making a significant impact in the lives of our students by helping remove barriers and supporting educational achievement.”
“For over 30 years, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation has been proud to invest in literacy and education programs in our hometown communities,” said Denine Torr, executive director of the Dollar General Literacy Foundation. “Today’s grant announcement is a celebration of our unwavering commitment to student and teacher success. We are grateful to all the grant recipients for their commitment to advancing education and helping students thrive.”
