SCTC Hosts VEX IQ Robotics Camp in Jackson

Date Posted: July 22, 2026

JACKSON, Ga. — Southern Crescent Technical College recently hosted a four-day VEX IQ Robotics Camp at Henderson Middle School in Butts County, providing middle school students with hands-on experience in robotics, engineering, and computer programming while preparing them for the upcoming VEX Robotics competition season.

The camp was designed to expand enrollment in Southern Crescent Technical College’s VEX Robotics Club while giving students a head start on building the robot they will use throughout this year’s competition season.

This year’s VEX IQ Robotics Competition game, Level Up, challenged participants to build the official VEX Hero Flop robot. Throughout the week, students learned how to assemble, troubleshoot, and program their robots for autonomous operation before testing their skills in a series of friendly competitions.

The camp welcomed 18 students, primarily from Henderson Middle School, along with participants from Creekside Academy and the Spalding County area.

“Programs like our VEX IQ Robotics Camp give students an opportunity to develop technical skills, strengthen their problem-solving abilities, and discover exciting career pathways in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics,” said Richard Andrews, Vice President of Economic Development at Southern Crescent Technical College. “By introducing students to robotics at an early age, we’re helping build the skilled workforce our region will need in the future while making STEM learning engaging and fun.”

he camp concluded with a robotics showcase for parents and community stakeholders. Students demonstrated the robots they built, highlighted their programming skills, and competed against one another in a series of challenges. The showcase gave families an opportunity to celebrate the students’ accomplishments while generating excitement for the upcoming VEX Robotics competition season.

Southern Crescent Technical College is committed to expanding STEM education opportunities for students across the region through innovative programs that encourage creativity, teamwork, critical thinking, and technical skill development.
