Southern Crescent Technical College (SCTC), through its Equity From Start to Finish program and with funding from the Predominantly Black Institutions (PBI) Formula Grant, proudly hosted a dynamic three-day Robotics Camp that brought STEM learning to life for ten enthusiastic high school students.
Campers spent three exciting days building and programming VEX robots designed for a high-energy soccer competition. Under the instruction of Mr. Ted Thompson, SCTC Industrial Systems Instructor, students explored concepts in engineering, automation, and coding as they collaborated to design robots capable of navigating the soccer field and scoring goals.
The camp was co-directed by Ms. Angela Bates, Director of Equity From Start to Finish, and Ms. Donna C. Boisseau, Executive Director of Equity From Start to Finish, whose vision and leadership ensured a meaningful experience focused on innovation, equity, and opportunity for all participants.
The camp concluded with a celebratory closing ceremony, attended by proud family members and special guests including SCTC President Dr. Irvin T. Clark who stated, “SCTC is dedicated to introducing students to STEM through the lens of technical education and the various career pathways.” Attendees were treated to a live robot soccer competition, showcasing the students’ hard work, creativity, and new skills.
The overwhelming interest and success of the camp has prompted SCTC to offer a second Robotics Camp July 28 – July 30 at our Henry County Center in McDonough, expanding opportunities for students to engage in hands-on STEM learning. Southern Crescent Technical College and the Equity From Start to Finish program remain committed to providing equitable access to high-demand STEM and workforce development opportunities for all student populations.
