Southern Crescent Technical College is inspiring the next generation of innovators by offering three free summer technology camps this July. Students will have the opportunity to explore robotics engineering, drone technology, programming, and problem-solving through immersive, hands-on learning experiences led by SCTC instructors.
The camps are designed to introduce middle and high school students to careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) while building valuable teamwork, leadership, and critical thinking skills.
“These camps give students an opportunity to experience the excitement of emerging technologies while learning directly from industry professionals,” said Dr. Irvin T. Clark III, President of Southern Crescent Technical College. “Whether students are interested in robotics, aviation, engineering, or technology, these experiences help spark curiosity and introduce them to rewarding career pathways available right here at Southern Crescent Technical College.”
VEX Air Camp
July 6–10
9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
SCTC Flint River Campus – Thomaston
Students will discover the exciting world of drone technology by learning how to safely operate drones, explore FAA safety awareness, and develop technology and data collection skills through hands-on flight activities.
VEX Robotics Camp – Griffin
July 13–17
8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
SCTC Griffin Campus
Designed for high school students interested in engineering and technology careers, this advanced robotics camp allows participants to build and program VEX robots, solve engineering challenges, and prepare for competition-style gameplay while strengthening programming, engineering design, leadership, and collaboration skills.
VEX Robotics Camp – Jackson
July 13–17
9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Henderson Middle School – Jackson
Middle school students will design and build robots, learn introductory coding concepts, participate in fun engineering challenges, and develop teamwork, communication, and creative problem-solving skills in an engaging learning environment.
All three camps are free of charge, but space is limited and advance registration is required.
“Technology continues to shape nearly every industry,” said Richard Andrews, SCTC VP of Economic Development. “These camps allow students to experience robotics and drone technology in a fun, supportive environment while introducing them to the high-demand careers available throughout our region.”
The camps are part of Southern Crescent Technical College’s ongoing commitment to expanding STEM education opportunities and strengthening the workforce pipeline across the college’s eight-county service area.
