Southern Crescent Technical College (SCTC) is bringing advanced robotics opportunities to local students through the launch of VEX Robotics Clubs across Butts, Henry, and Spalding counties. Nearly 50 middle and high school students are already participating, gaining early exposure to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) in a hands-on, engaging way.
The clubs give students the chance to design, build, and program robots while developing critical skills in coding, problem-solving, teamwork, and engineering design. By working with VEX Robotics platforms, students are experiencing the same tools and challenges that fuel real-world careers in automation and advanced manufacturing.
Looking ahead, this initiative also connects directly to Southern Crescent’s pathways in Mechatronics, Robotics, and Automation, creating a clear link between club activities and future college and career opportunities.
The planned Robotics, Automation, Advanced Manufacturing, and Economic Development (RAAME) Center will serve as a state-of-the-art hub for workforce training. Expected completion of the RAAME Center is Fall 2026 and it will provide even greater opportunities for students to expand their skills, collaborate with industry partners, and explore cutting-edge technologies that are shaping tomorrow’s workforce.
