SCTC Partners with UGA-Griffin to Host Multiple Community Engagement Dinners

Date Posted: January 30, 2025

On January 29, supporters of Southern Crescent Technical College (SCTC) and The University of Georgia Griffin Campus (UGA-G) joined together to attend an intimate and casual dinner at the Dundee Café on The University of Georgia Griffin Campus.  This dinner series aims to foster community and educational partnerships between the two institutions and their supporters and highlight key programs offered locally.

Local community members and supporters gathered to enjoy a gourmet meal provided by talented SCTC Culinary students under the guidance of their faculty. This collaboration will enhance students’ culinary technical skills through food preparation and presentation, provide real-world experience in customer service and business operations, and introduce the community to SCTC and UGA-G’s academic programs and services.

Dr. Irvin Clark, SCTC President and Dr. Jeffrey Dean, Assistant Provost and Director of the University of Georgia Griffin Campus kicked off the Community Engagement Dinner by welcoming attendees to the event.

After dinner, participants moved outside to learn more about SCTC’s Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) program.  Candice Buckley, Interim Vice President of Advancement at SCTC introduced Diane McHughes and Kelly Browning, SCTC instructors, and Randi Ahlstrom, an student, who highlighted the ECCE program at the College.  On behalf of UGA-G, Dr. Francisco Diez, Director of Center for Food Safety spoke about the Food Safety program and Melissa Todd, Assist Director of Academic & Student Affairs, spoke on the partnership between SCTC and UGA-G and the programs offered at UGA-G.

“Southern Crescent Technical College and UGA Griffin are both focused on creating unique opportunities for both the students and communities that we serve,” said Dr. Clark.  “We are thrilled to partner with our colleagues at UGA Griffin to offer this dinner series where we can showcase both institutions and our remarkable programs while strengthening our commitment to local partners.”

The next SCTC/UGA-G dinner will be held on February 26, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. at the Dundee Café. Tickets can be obtained by contacting the SCTC Foundation office at foundation@sctech.edu.
