Southern Crescent Technical College (SCTC) partnered with Amazon and Soccer in the Streets on June 3 to deliver hands-on STEM experiences for approximately 120 metro Atlanta students during the Soccer & STEM Showcase at East Lake Soccer Station.
The half-day event combined soccer clinics with a STEM Expo, where students rotated through interactive learning stations. SCTC highlighted its VEX Robotics program alongside its Industrial Systems Technology Mobile Training Lab, giving students a firsthand look at careers in advanced manufacturing and skilled trades.
SCTC’s 53-foot mobile training lab—equipped with industry-standard systems used in robotics, electrical systems, motor controls, and smart factory technologies—brought real-world training directly into the community. The mobile lab serves as a flexible learning environment designed to support workforce development, upskill current workers, and introduce future generations to in-demand technical careers.
During small-group rotations, SCTC representatives engaged students in hands-on demonstrations, showing how engineering, automation, and robotics translate into high-demand career pathways. “Experiences like this help students see STEM as a pathway to opportunity,” said SCTC President Dr. Irvin Clark. “By bringing our mobile lab into the community, we’re making technical education more accessible and inspiring the next generation of skilled professionals.”
The Soccer & STEM Showcase is part of a broader collaboration between Amazon and Soccer in the Streets, a nonprofit dedicated to expanding access to sports and opportunity through its innovative Station Soccer program. Supported by partners including MARTA, the initiative transforms underutilized transit spaces into hubs for youth engagement, education, and community enrichment.
