Course Withdrawal Policy
If you need to withdraw from all of your classes for a semester,
you must complete the Official Southern Crescent Technical College Withdrawal Form.
Before You Withdraw
- Withdrawals are processed one semester at a time.
- It is your responsibility to know the withdrawal deadline for your classes.
- Withdrawal requests cannot be processed after the published deadline.
What Grade Will I Receive?
- If you officially withdraw before the deadline, you will receive a W on your transcript.
- If you stop attending without completing the official withdrawal process, you may receive the grade earned based on your coursework.
Financial Aid Information
If you receive financial aid, you are strongly encouraged to speak with the
Financial Aid Office before withdrawing.
Withdrawing from all of your classes may:
- Affect your future financial aid eligibility.
- Require repayment of some financial aid funds.
- Create a balance that you must repay to the College or the U.S. Department of Education.
Students receiving Federal Pell Grants, Federal Direct Loans, or FSEOG
who withdraw before completing 60% of the semester may be required
to return a portion of their financial aid based on their last date of attendance.
Note: No refunds are given after the first three calendar days of the semester.
Unofficial Withdrawals
An unofficial withdrawal occurs when a student stops attending
classes without completing the official withdrawal process.
- Students who stop attending may receive one or more F grades.
- Faculty record the student's last date of attendance for any course with an "F" grade.
- Students who stop attending may be required to repay a portion of their financial aid to Southern Crescent Technical College and/or the U.S. Department of Education.
- Students who earn an "F" because of academic performance, but who continued attending class, are not considered unofficial withdrawals.
If you are thinking about stopping attendance, do not simply stop going to class.
Complete the official withdrawal process or speak with the Registrar's Office or
Financial Aid Office to understand how your decision may affect your academic
record and financial aid.
Important
Withdrawing from classes may affect your academic progress,
graduation timeline, and financial aid eligibility.
If you are unsure whether withdrawing is the right decision,
contact the Registrar's Office or Financial Aid Office before submitting your request.
Hardship Withdrawal Policy
A Hardship Withdrawal may be available when an unexpected or traumatic event
prevents you from completing your coursework during the current semester.
Simply being in danger of failing a class does not qualify as a hardship.
Before You Apply
- If the regular withdrawal period is still open, you must complete the Official Withdrawal Form instead.
- If your hardship occurs after the withdrawal deadline, talk with your instructor first to determine if an Incomplete ("I") may be appropriate.
Application Requirements
- A completed Hardship Withdrawal Request.
- A written explanation describing your circumstances.
- Supporting documentation. Requests without documentation cannot be approved.
If Your Request Is Approved
- You will receive a grade of "W" for all eligible registered courses.
- Courses that have already ended or are still within the normal withdrawal period are not included.
- No tuition or fee refunds are issued.
- A "W" will appear on your academic transcript.
Important Deadlines
- Submit your request as soon as possible.
- Requests must be received no later than the last day of classes of the following semester.
- Students generally cannot receive a hardship withdrawal after completing a course, including taking the final exam or submitting the final project.
- Only one Hardship Withdrawal may be granted during your enrollment at SCTC.
Important
A Hardship Withdrawal is intended for serious, documented circumstances
beyond your control. Approval is not automatic and is based on the
information and documentation you provide.
