Foundation Scholarships - Spring 2019 List

The Southern Crescent Technical College Foundation, Inc. offers scholarship opportunities to students. Scholarship funds are NOT paid directly to the student. Please read all application materials carefully--some restrictions apply. Foundation scholarships are reviewed by a panel of faculty/staff and awarded to a currently enrolled part-time or full-time SCTC student.

  • Student must be a Georgia resident, in good academic standing with a cumulative GPA of 2.50 or higher in a certificate, diploma or degree program.
  • All applications require uploading and attaching a current Federal Tax Return with all social security and bank numbers redacted plus a 250-word essay explaining how receiving the scholarship will help you attain your educational plans and career goals.
  • Some scholarships require an attached list of course-required textbook and/or tool (supply list) and cost estimate.
  • Textbook and Toolbox Scholarships are for purchases at the SCTC Bookstore.
    • If course-required items are not in stock, please contact Bookstore Coordinator, Brannen Wall, for assistance.
  • Please provide an explanation of your financial need for the scholarship when you fill out the application.
  • If awarded a scholarship, a photograph with a note of gratitude is required from the recipient.

The SPRING SEMESTER 2019 Scholarship Deadline is Midnight, SEPTEMBER 30, 2018. Applications will be open online from September 1st to September 30, 2018. Results for Spring semester scholarships will be announced in a personal email to the student applicant by November 1, 2018.

 NOTE: This is the ONLY time that you can apply for SPRING scholarships. The application to apply for SUMMER AND FALL scholarships will open March 1st, 2019 for a one-month period.

Foundation Scholarships:

GED/Advancement-to-College Textbook & Toolbox Scholarship is a $250 textbook & toolbox scholarship awarded to a recent Southern Crescent Technical College GED graduate (completed within the last 12 months) who scored over 580 on the GED test and who has enrolled in Southern Crescent Technical College. Scholarship is for the purchase of program-required textbook and tools, uniforms, equipment, and/or supplies. List of textbook and tools with cost estimate required with application.

High School-to-College Textbook & Toolbox Scholarship is a $300 textbook & toolbox scholarship awarded to a recent high school graduate (graduated within the last 24 months) who is enrolled at Southern Crescent Technical College. Scholarship is for the purchase of program-required textbook and tools, uniforms, equipment, and/or supplies. List of textbook and tools with cost estimate required with application.

General Foundation Scholarships:

Bill Walden Memorial Textbook and Toolbox Scholarship is a $300 textbook and toolbox scholarship. Established in memory of former SCTC Business Management instructor Bill Walden for his commitment and contributions to the College. Scholarship is for the purchase of program-required textbook and tools, uniforms, equipment, and/or supplies. List of textbook and tools with cost estimate required with application.

Dream Makers Tuition Scholarship is a $900 tuition scholarship to a student who is NOT eligible for the HOPE Grant/Scholarship, WIOA and/or the PELL Grant. Applicants for this scholarship may also include those who have capped-out on HOPE financial aid.

Georgia Power Company Textbook and Toolbox Scholarship is a $250 textbook and toolbox scholarship. Scholarship is for the purchase of program-required textbook and tools, uniforms, equipment, and/or supplies. List of textbook and tools with cost estimate required with application.

John Bradley Memorial Textbook and Toolbox Scholarship is a $250 textbook and toolbox scholarship for the purchase of program-required textbook and tools, uniforms, equipment, and/or supplies. Established in memory of John Bradley, former Automotive Collision and Repair instructor at the College, who died of cancer in 2006. List of textbooks and tools/supplies with cost estimate required with application.

Trevor Alexander Memorial Tuition Scholarship is a $250 tuition scholarship to a student who is eligible for the HOPE Grant/Scholarship but is NOT eligible for The PELL Grant. Established in memory of Trevor Alexander, an Assessment Specialist at the College, who died of cancer in August 2013.

Upson EMC Foundation Tuition Scholarship is a $250 tuition scholarship. Student must be a Georgia resident and must live in one of the five counties Upson EMC serves: Crawford, Pike, Meriwether, Talbot, and Upson.

Walker Cook Memorial Tuition Scholarship is a $250 tuition scholarship established in memory of Walker Cook who passed away in 2017, former Griffin resident and husband of Barbara Jo Cook, V.P. for Advancement at SCTC. Walker was a life-long educator who believed education improved the quality of life for individuals and communities

Cody Blissit Textbook and Toolbox Scholarship is a $250 textbook & toolbox scholarship for the purchase of program-required textbooks, tools, uniforms, equipment, and/or supplies. This scholarship is for students in the Accounting, Business Management, or Business Technology program. . List of textbooks and/or tools with cost estimate required with application.

Cody Blissit Tuition Scholarship is a $250 tuition scholarship awarded to a student in the Accounting, Business Management, or Business Technology program.

Delta Plumbing Educated Plumber Plumbing/Pipefitting Textbook & Toolbox Scholarship is a $250 textbook and toolbox scholarship awarded to a student in a Plumbing/Pipefitting Technology program. List of textbooks and/or tools with cost estimate required with application.

Elmer L. Peters Memorial Law Enforcement Officer Tuition, Textbook & Toolbox Scholarship is a $500 scholarship awarded for tuition, textbooks and tools to a degree-seeking student in Criminal Justice Technology. Student must also be a post-certified officer currently serving in a law enforcement position. Established in memory of Elmer L. Peters, who retired after 25 years with the City of Dayton, Ohio, Police Department and 13 years with the Dekalb County Sheriff's Office in Smithville, Tennessee. This scholarship reflects his firm support of higher education, and his thought that professional police officers need professional level education and training. Mr. Peters passed away May 2013. Scholarship is for tuition and the purchase of program-required textbook and tools, uniforms, equipment, and/or supplies. List of textbook and tools with cost estimate required with application. George Capo, D.O. Medical Assisting Tuition Scholarship is a $250 tuition scholarship awarded to a student in the Medical Assisting program.

Griffin Utility Club RN Scholarship is a $250 tuition and fees scholarship to a female student from Spalding County who is in the Registered Nursing program. The Griffin Utility Club dissolved in 2017 after more than 90 years of volunteer service to the Griffin-Spalding County community and the club dispersed the assets to organizations the club supported.

Justin Peeples Memorial Textbook and Toolbox CIS Scholarship is a $250 textbook and toolbox scholarship awarded to a student in the Computer Information Systems program. Established in memory of Justin Peeples, a Computer Network Specialist student at the College. Justin died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in 2011. Lespedeza Fund Tuition, Textbook and Toolbox Scholarship, honoring the memory of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Allen and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Johnson, is a $1,000 tuition, textbook and toolbox scholarship awarded to a first-generation student* in the following SCTC diploma or degree programs: Allied Health, Business Technology, Criminal Justice, Industrial Systems Technology and Logistics and Supply Chain Management. The Lespedeza Fund Scholarship is limited to being awarded twice to an individual student. After a student has been awarded this scholarship a second time, they are no longer eligible to apply for or receive funds from this scholarship. *Note: A first-generation college student is defined as a student whose parent(s)/legal guardian(s) have not completed a degree or any education beyond high school. This means that you are the first in your family to attend college to attain a certificate, diploma or degree. Once awarded, funds are split with $500 applied to tuition and $500 applied to textbook and toolbox expenses.

MAACA / Tim Derrick Memorial Textbook and Toolbox Scholarship is a $250 textbook and toolbox scholarship awarded to a student in an Air Conditioning Technology program. Established in memory of Tim Derrick, Chief HVAC inspector for the City of Atlanta, HVAC contractor, and HVAC instructor, who died of brain cancer in 2005, and was a longtime member of the Metropolitan Atlanta Air conditioning Contractors Association (MAACA). Melvin Memorial Accounting Tuition Scholarship is a $250 tuition scholarship awarded to a student in an Accounting program. Tom Melvin was a CPA with Melvin, Rooks, and Howell in Griffin who died in August of 2018.

Peachtree City Garden Club Tuition, Textbook & Toolbox Scholarship is a $500 tuition, textbook and toolbox scholarship awarded to a student in the Environmental Horticulture program. Funded by the Peachtree City Garden Club to support education in the green industry, including landscape design, lawn care, nursery and greenhouse operations and more. Scholarship is for the purchase of program-required textbook and tools, uniforms, equipment, and/or supplies. List of textbook and tools with cost estimate required with application. Once awarded, funds are split with $250 applied to tuition and $250 applied to textbook and toolbox expenses.

Schyla Avery Memorial Textbook and Toolbox Scholarship is a $250 scholarship awarded for the purchase of program required textbooks, uniforms, equipment, and/or supplies to a student pursuing a degree in Respiratory Care. Established in memory of Schyla Nicole Avery, who received an AAS degree in Respiratory Care from the College, and died in a tragic house fire in 2011. SCTC Culinary Arts Advisory Committee Tuition, Textbook & Toolbox Scholarship is a $500 scholarship awarded to a student in the Culinary Arts program who has completed CUUL 1000, 1110, and 1120. The student must have a minimum 3.0 GPA cumulative average. The student must provide the name of an SCTC Culinary Arts instructor who will be contacted on their behalf for a letter of recommendation. SCTC Medical Assisting Tuition Scholarship is a $250 tuition scholarship awarded to a student in the Medical Assisting program.

Southern Contractors Association Textbook & Toolbox Scholarship is a $250 textbook & toolbox scholarship for the purchase of program-required textbooks, tools, uniforms, equipment, and/or supplies. This scholarship is for students in a Technical & Industrial program directly related to the building industry. List of textbooks and/or tools with cost estimate required with application.

Sundial Plumbing Tuition, Textbook and Toolbox Scholarship is a $1,250 tuition, textbook and toolbox scholarship awarded to a student in a Plumbing/Pipefitting Technology program. Scholarship is for tuition and the purchase of program-required textbook and tools, uniforms, equipment, and/or supplies. List of textbook and tools with cost estimate required with application. Once awarded, funds are split with $1,000 applied to tuition and $250 applied to textbook and toolbox expenses.
