Foundation Scholarships - Spring 2018 List

The Southern Crescent Technical College Foundation, Inc. offers scholarship opportunities to students. Scholarship funds are NOT paid directly to the student. Please read all application materials carefully--some restrictions apply. Foundation scholarships are reviewed by a panel of faculty/staff and awarded to a currently enrolled part-time or full-time SCTC student. Student must be a Georgia resident, in good academic standing with a cumulative GPA of 2.50 or higher in a certificate, diploma or degree program. All applications require uploading and attaching a current Federal Tax Return with all social security and bank numbers redacted plus a 250-word essay explaining how receiving the scholarship will help you attain your educational plans and career goals. Some scholarships require an attached list of course-required textbook and/or tool (supply list) and cost estimate.

The SPRING SEMESTER 2018 Scholarship Deadline is Midnight, November 2, 2017. Applications will be open online from October 2 to November 2, 2017. Results will be announced in a personal email to the student applicant on November 30, 2017.

Available Foundation Scholarships:

GED/Advancement-to-College Textbook Scholarship is a $250 textbook scholarship awarded to a recent Southern Crescent Technical College GED graduate (completed within the last 12 months) who scored over 580 on the GED test and who has enrolled in Southern Crescent Technical College. High School-to-College Textbook Scholarship is a $300 textbook scholarship awarded to a recent high school graduate (graduated within the last 24 months) who is enrolled at Southern Crescent Technical College. List of textbooks with cost estimate required with application.

General Foundation Scholarships:

Bill Walden Memorial Textbook Scholarship is a $300 textbook scholarship. Established in memory of former SCTC Business Management instructor Bill Walden for his commitment and contributions to the College. List of textbooks with cost estimate required with application.

Georgia Power Company Scholarship is a $250 toolbox scholarship for the purchase of program-required tools, uniforms and/or equipment. List of tools/supplies with cost estimate required with application.

John Bradley Memorial Toolbox Scholarship is a $250 toolbox scholarship for the purchase of program-required tools, uniforms, equipment, and/or supplies. Established in memory of John Bradley, former Automotive Collision and Repair instructor at the College, who died of cancer in 2006. List of tools/supplies with cost estimate required with application.

Monster Tigers Tuition Scholarship is a $900 tuition scholarship to a student who is NOT eligible for the HOPE Grant/Scholarship, WIOA and/or The PELL Grant. Applicants for this scholarship may also include those who have capped-out on HOPE financial aid.

Stephen Lee Memorial Textbook and Toolbox Scholarship is a $250 textbook and toolbox scholarship for the purchase of program-required textbooks, tools, uniforms, equipment, and/or supplies. Established in memory of Stephen Lee, a 2006 Griffin Tech graduate, who passed in June 2016. List of textbooks and/or tools with cost estimate required with application.

Trevor Alexander Memorial Tuition Scholarship is a $250 tuition, fees and/or books scholarship to a student who is eligible for the HOPE Grant/Scholarship but is NOT eligible for The PELL Grant. Established in memory of Trevor Alexander, an Assessment Specialist at the College, who died of cancer in August 2013.

Upson EMC Foundation Tuition, Textbook & Toolbox Scholarship is a $250 tuition, textbook and toolbox scholarship. Student must be a Georgia resident and must live in one of the six counties Upson EMC serves: Crawford, Pike, Meriwether, Talbot, and Upson.

Program Specific Foundation Scholarships:

Delta Plumbing Educated Plumber Plumbing/Pipefitting Textbook & Toolbox Scholarship is a $250 textbook and toolbox scholarship awarded to a student in a Plumbing/Pipefitting Technology program. List of textbooks and/or tools with cost estimate required with application.

Dogwood Garden Club Horticulture Toolbox Scholarship is a $150 toolbox scholarship awarded to a student in the Environmental Horticulture program. List of tools with cost estimate required with application. Funded by the Dogwood Garden Club of Griffin.

Elmer L. Peters Memorial Law Enforcement Officer Scholarship is a $500 scholarship awarded for tuition and fees, program-required textbooks, uniforms, equipment, and/or supplies to a degree-seeking student in Criminal Justice Technology. Student must also be a post-certified officer currently serving in a law enforcement position. Established in memory of Elmer L. Peters, who retired after 25 years with the City of Dayton, Ohio, Police Department and 13 years with the Dekalb County Sheriff’s Office in Smithville, Tennessee. This scholarship reflects his firm support of higher education, and his thought that professional police officers need professional level education and training. Mr. Peters passed away May 2013.

George Capo, D.O. Medical Assisting Tuition, Textbook & Toolbox Scholarship is a $250 tuition, textbook and toolbox scholarship awarded to a student in the Medical Assisting program.

Jack Cunningham Memorial Carpentry Scholarship is a $250 toolbox scholarship awarded to a student enrolled in the Carpentry or Construction Management program. Established in memory of Jack Cunningham by his wife, Pat, who taught at Griffin Technical College. The scholarship commemorates Jack Cunningham’s love of carpentry. Justin Peeples Memorial CIS Scholarship is a $250 textbook and toolbox scholarship awarded to a student in the Computer Information Systems program. Established in memory of Justin Peeples, a Computer Network Specialist student at the College. Justin died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in 2011. List of textbooks and/or tools with cost estimate required with application.

Lespedeza Fund Scholarship, honoring the memory of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Allen and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Johnson, is a $1,000 tuition, textbook and toolbox need-based scholarship awarded to a first-generation student* in the following SCTC diploma or degree programs: Allied Health, Business Technology, Criminal Justice, Industrial Systems Technology and Logistics and Supply Chain Management. Essay should explain how receiving the scholarship will help the student attain his or her educational plans and career goals. The Lespedeza Fund Scholarship is limited to being awarded twice to an individual student. After a student has been awarded this scholarship a second time, they are no longer eligible to apply for or receive funds from this scholarship. *Note: A first-generation college student is defined as a student whose parent(s)/legal guardian(s) have not completed a degree or any education beyond high school. This means that you are the first in your family to attend college to attain a certificate, diploma or degree. A photograph with a note of gratitude is required from the recipient once the scholarship has been awarded.

MAACA / Tim Derrick Memorial Scholarship is a $250 textbook and toolbox scholarship awarded to a student in an Air Conditioning Technology program. Established in memory of Tim Derrick, Chief HVAC inspector for the City of Atlanta, HVAC contractor, and HVAC instructor, who died of brain cancer in 2005, and was a longtime member of the Metropolitan Atlanta Air conditioning Contractors Association (MAACA). Peachtree City Garden Club Tuition, Textbook and Toolbox Scholarship is a $500 tuition, textbook and toolbox scholarship awarded to a student in the Environmental Horticulture program. Funded by the Peachtree City Garden Club to support education in the green industry, including landscape design, lawn care, nursery and greenhouse operations and more.

Schyla Avery Memorial Scholarship is a $250 scholarship awarded for the purchase of program required textbooks, uniforms, equipment, and/or supplies to a student pursuing a degree in Respiratory Care. Established in memory of Schyla Nicole Avery, who received an AAS degree in Respiratory Care from the College, and died in a tragic house fire in 2011. SCTC Culinary Arts Advisory Committee Tuition, Textbook & Toolbox Scholarship is a $250 tuition, textbook and toolbox scholarship awarded to student in the Culinary Arts program.

SCTC Medical Assisting Tuition, Textbook & Toolbox Scholarship is a $250 tuition, textbook and toolbox scholarship awarded to a student in the Medical Assisting program.
