SCTC Foundation Awards 47 Scholarships for Spring Semester

The Southern Crescent Technical College Foundation awarded 47 scholarships totaling $17,100 for students enrolled in the College for 2021 Spring Semester.

Of those, the Foundation awarded 29 Internal Tiger Campaign scholarships totaling $9,900.  Internal scholarships are funded through contributions from the SCTC faculty and staff primarily through monthly payroll deductions to the Internal Fundraising Campaign. In addition, the Foundation awarded 18 external scholarships totaling $7,200.  External scholarships are funded through contributions from business partners, foundations and generous donors within our service community as well as SCTC faculty and staff for program-specific scholarships not included in the Internal Tiger Campaign.

Scholarship applications for 2021 Summer Semester will be available online from February 1 to February 28 at https://www.sctech.edu/foundation/foundation-scholarships/ .

Congratulations to the following students who were awarded Internal scholarships:

The Bill Walden Memorial Textbook and Toolbox Scholarship is a $250 scholarship established in memory of former SCTC Business Management instructor Bill Walden for his commitment and contributions to the College. The Foundation awarded seven $250 scholarships for a total of $1,750.  Those receiving the scholarship for 2021 Spring Semester are:

  • Christa Buice – Surgical Technology – Henry County
  • Rosanna Fetters – Nursing – Pike County
  • Nidhi Gandotra – Early Childhood Care and Education – Spalding County
  • Chauntey James – Nursing – Clayton County
  • N’neka Sudderth – Practical Nursing – Upson County
  • Christopher Taylor – Health Care Management – Rockdale County
  • Aurora Uwase – Respiratory Care – Clayton County

 

The High School-to-College Textbook and Toolbox Scholarship is a $300 textbook & toolbox scholarship awarded to a recent high school graduate (graduated within the last 24 months) who is enrolled at Southern Crescent Technical College. The Foundation awarded one $300 for 2021 Spring Semester to:

  • Lindsay Summers – Website Design/Development – Henry County

 

The GED-to-College Textbook and Toolbox Scholarship is a $250 scholarship awarded to a recent Southern Crescent Technical College Adult Education/GED graduate (completed within the last 12 months) who scored over 580 on the GED test and has enrolled in SCTC.  The Foundation awarded one $250 scholarship for 2021 Spring Semester to:

  • Tobias Richardson – Carpentry – Construction Manager – Clayton County

 

The John Bradley Memorial Textbook and Toolbox Scholarship is a $250 scholarship established in memory of John Bradley, former Automotive Collision and Repair instructor at the College who died of cancer in 2006. The Foundation awarded eight $250 scholarships for a total of $2000.  Those receiving the scholarship for 2021 Spring Semester are:

  • Joi Gray – Cosmetology – Clayton County
  • Julie Hill – Radiologic Technology – Henry County
  • Janette Mullner – Nursing – Fayette County
  • Megan Pass – Nursing – Lamar County
  • Adrienne Pino – Early Childhood Care and Education – Coweta County
  • Cheyenne Rodriguez – Nail Technician – Spalding County
  • Chequilia Stinson – Health Care Management – Spalding County
  • Kami Vaugn – Patient Care Assistant – Henry County

 

The “Team Five” Tuition Scholarship is a $900 tuition scholarship to a student who is not eligible for the HOPE Grant/Scholarship, WIOA and/or the PELL Grant and/or any other financial aid. The “Team Five” Tuition Scholarship is named in honor of the winning team for the Internal Tiger Campaign for Southern Crescent Technical College. The Foundation awarded four $900 scholarships for a total of $3,600.  Those receiving the scholarship for 2021 Spring Semester are:

  • Kiri Day – Computed Tomography Specialist – Henry County
  • Rosalyn Council – Nursing – Clayton County
  • Megan Demeter – Culinary Arts – Fayette County
  • Nicole Granger – Radiologic Technology – Fayette County

 

The Trevor Alexander Memorial Tuition Scholarship is a $250 tuition scholarship to a student who is eligible for the HOPE Grant/Scholarship but is not eligible for the PELL Grant. The scholarship was established in memory of Trevor Alexander, an Assessment Specialist at the College who died of cancer in August 2013. The Foundation awarded eight $250 scholarships for a total of $2000.  Those receiving the scholarship for 2021 Spring Semester are:

  • Jessenia Carbajal – Automotive Technology – A+ CompTIA Certified Tech Preparation – Forensic Science Technology – Cobb County
  • Helen Nguyen – Accounting – Henry County
  • Melani Kendrew – Radiologic Technology – Henry County
  • Corae Overton – Healthcare Management – Henry County
  • Alexis Jones – Dental Assisting – Spalding County
  • Amanda Loiseau – Healthcare Management – Clayton County
  • Alissa McIntyre – Nursing – Henry County

Congratulations to the following students who were awarded External scholarships:

The SCTC Culinary Arts Advisory Committee Tuition, Textbook & Toolbox Scholarship is a $500 scholarship awarded to a student in the Culinary Arts program who has completed CUUL 1000, 1110, and 1120. The scholarship is for tuition and the purchase of program-required textbook and tools, uniforms, equipment, and/or supplies. The Foundation awarded one $500 scholarship for 2021 Spring Semester to:

  • Marinda Wilson – Culinary Arts – Fayette County

 

The Justin Peeples Memorial CIS Scholarship is a $250 textbook and toolbox scholarship awarded to a student in the Computer Information Systems program. The scholarships was established in memory of Justin Peeples, a Computer Network Specialist student at the College. Justin died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in 2011. The Foundation awarded one $250 scholarship for Fall Semester to:

  • Morgan Morris – Website Design/Development – Butts County

 

The Georgia Power Scholarship is a $250 textbook and toolbox scholarship funded by the Georgia Power Company for the purchase of program-required tools, uniforms and/or equipment.  The Foundation awarded two $250 scholarships for a total of $500.  Those receiving the scholarship for 2021 Spring Semester are:

  • Tuesday Manion – Forensic Science Technology – Henry County
  • Tiffany Ogles – Early Childhood Care and Education – Henry County

 

The Lespedeza Fund Scholarship –  honors the memory of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Allen and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Johnson and is a $1,000 tuition, textbook and toolbox need-based scholarship awarded to a first-generation student (defined as a student whose parent(s)/legal guardian(s) have not completed a degree or any education beyond high school/first in their family to attend college to attain a certificate, diploma or degree) enrolled in one of the following programs: Allied Health, Business Technology, Criminal Justice, Industrial Systems Technology, and Logistics and Supply Chain Management. The Foundation awarded three $1,000 scholarships for a total of $3,000.  Those receiving the scholarship for 2021 Spring Semester are:

  • Jessica Miller – Radiologic Technology – Upson County
  • Hannah Stewart – Practical Nursing – Upson County
  • Chalezia Winborne – Health Care Management – Henry County

 

The Walker Cook Memorial Tuition Scholarship is a $250 tuition scholarship established in memory of Walker Cook who passed away in 2017.  Walker was a former Griffin resident and husband of Barbara Jo Cook, V.P. for Advancement at SCTC. He was a life-long educator who believed education improved the quality of life for individuals and communities. The Foundation awarded two $250 scholarships for a total of $500.  Those receiving the scholarship for 2021 Spring Semester are:

  • Amanda Strickland – Health Care Management – Spalding County
  • Jessica Wallace – Health Care Management – Fayette County

 

The Debbie Dawson Memorial Scholarship is a $200 award for a senior Radiologic Technology student, who does not qualify for WIOA. The scholarship was established in memory of Deborah R. Dawson who passed away in 2020 after 24 years of teaching and leading the Radiologic Technology Program at SCTC.   The award will be used to cover the expense of applying to the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) national registration. The Foundation awarded one $200 scholarship for 2021 Spring Semester to:

  • Nicole Granger – Radiologic Technology – Fayette County

 

The Cooper Family Culinary Arts Scholarship is a $250 scholarship awarded to a currently enrolled part-time or full-time Southern Crescent Technical College student in good academic standing in a Culinary Arts program of study. The Foundation awarded one $250 scholarship for 2021 Spring Semester to:

  • Marinda Wilson – Culinary Arts – Fayette County

 

The Schyla Avery Memorial Textbook & Toolbox Scholarship is a $250 scholarship awarded for students pursuing a degree in Respiratory Care. The scholarship was established in memory of Schyla Nicole Avery, who received an AAS degree in Respiratory Care from the College and died in a tragic house fire in 2011. The Foundation awarded one $250 scholarship for 2021 Spring Semester to:

  • Amanda Speir – Respiratory Care – Coweta County

 

The Spalding County County Pickleball Association Practical Nursing Scholarship is a $500 tuition scholarship awarded to a student in the Practical Nursing program. The Spalding County Pickleball Association is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization promoting and growing pickleball for the betterment of our community through active lifestyle, health & well-being, exercise and fitness, sports tourism, and economic impact.  The Foundation awarded one $500 scholarship for 2021 Spring Semester to:

  • Jasmine Kemp – AS General Studies – Henry County

 

The Southern Contractors Association Textbook & Toolbox Scholarship is a $250 textbook & toolbox scholarship for the purchase of program-required textbooks, tools, uniforms, equipment, and/or supplies. This scholarship is for students in a Technical & Industrial program directly related to the building industry. The Foundation awarded one $250 scholarship for 2021 Spring Semester to:

  • Timothy Foster – Carpentry – Henry County

 

The Upson EMC Foundation Tuition Scholarship is a $250 tuition scholarship. Students must be a Georgia resident and must live in one of the six counties Upson EMC serves: Crawford, Pike, Meriwether, Talbot, Taylor and Upson. The Foundation awarded four $250 scholarships for a total of $1,000 for 2021 Spring Semester to:

  • Adrian Bruton – Nursing – Pike County
  • Orlona Clemons – Health Care Management – Meriwether County
  • Gavin Hammock, Jr. –  Business Management Degree – Business Technology – Upson County
  • Ally Payne – Radiologic Technology – Pike County
