Pre-Apprenticeship FAQs

  Who is eligible for the Pre-Apprenticeship program?

  • This is a wonderful opportunity for residents of Butts, Fayette, Henry, Jasper, Lamar, Pike, Spalding, and Upson counties
  • Program participants may only participate in one Pre-Apprenticeship program at a time

  • The high-demand industry ready, 8-week, pre-apprenticeship programs will be offered Spring 2023.  Classes vary by specific pathway, but will run approximately March 6 – May 9, 2023.

  • The Pre-Apprenticeship program covers 3 courses per pathway.

  • All courses must be completed within the 8-week time frame.

  • Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt and Live Learn, Work, and Thrive in Southern Crescent courses are covered by HERF funding.
  • Program specific college credit courses including DC Circuit Analysis (ISDY 1101), Print Reading for Machine Tool (MCHT 1012), Introduction to Healthcare (ALHS 1040), Business Plan Development (MGMT 2145), Intro to Supply Chain Management (SCMA 1000) may be covered through HOPE Grant Dual Enrollment Funding or HERF (Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund).

  • No. Only courses on your specific program pathway will be covered under funding for this program.
  • Please contact the SCTC Office of Admissions for more information about other college courses.

  • Participants should apply for financial aid during the initial application process

  • In order to complete the chosen Pre-Apprenticeship Pathway, a student is required to maintain a C or better in the class and complete all course requirements.


Allied Health

The High-Demand Industry-Ready Allied Health Pathway Pre-Apprenticeship program includes 86 hours of theory and hands-on skills training. It provides individuals with a career pathway into Southern Crescent Technical College’s academic programs and an introduction to the fundamental concepts and skills required for entry-level positions in high demand industry sectors in SCTC’s eight county service area. Through SCTC’s Allied Health programs, individuals are able to explore and train for careers in nursing, medical assisting, dental assisting, phlebotomy, nurse aide, central sterile processing or EMT.

Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt – 8 hours
April 15, 2023 (Saturday) | 7:30am -3:30pm
This course serves as a solid first step in providing you with insight into the Lean Six Sigma competency area. You’ll develop an understanding of what is involved in becoming a Lean Thinker, understand the purpose of Lean and Six Sigma, learn to see waste and problems, and connect to customer value.

Introduction to Health Care (ALH 1040) – 75 hours (45 Lab/30 Lecture)
March 9-May 9, 2023 (M-TH) | 5pm – 7pm
This course introduces a grouping of fundamental principles, practices, and issues common in the health care profession. In addition to the essential skills, individuals explore various delivery systems and related issues. Topics include: basic life support/CPR, basic emergency care/first aid and triage, vital signs, infection control/blood and air-borne pathogens.

Live, Learn, Work, and Thrive in Southern Crescent – 3 hours
March 7, 2023 (Tuesday) | 4pm-7pm
This course will explore the history of the 8 county Southern Crescent region, and the benefits of working, and living in the region. Southern Crescent is home to three higher education institutions, a strong K-12 system, beautiful neighborhoods and homes, and employers that provide strong competitive wages in industry sectors that are considered among the best in Georgia and the southeast.

  • Industry Ready Allied Health Pathway will enroll a maximum of 20 participants.
  • Classes will run over an 8-week period
  • Classes will begin March 7, 2023 and end May 9, 2023.
  • Delivery format is Hybrid (online and in-person)
  • Classes will be held at SCTC’s Fayette County Center.
  • Participants must start and complete the entire program in one sitting.
  • Participants who successfully complete the Introduction to Health Care with a passing grade of C or higher will earn 3 college credits (ALHA 1040).
  • Participants who successfully complete Lean Six Sigma course, and CPR Course, will earn an industry recognized credential in each area.


CNC Technology

The High-Demand Industry-Ready CNC Technology Pathway Pre-Apprenticeship program includes 56 hours of theory and hands-on skills training. It provides individuals with a career pathway into Southern Crescent Technical College’s academic programs and an introduction to the fundamental concepts and skills required for entry-level positions in high demand industry sectors in SCTC’s eight county service area. Through SCTC’s CNC Technology program, individuals are able to explore and train for careers as machinists, toolmakers, or die makers.

April 15, 2023 (Saturday) | 7:30am -3:30pm
This course serves as a solid first step in providing you with insight into the Lean Six Sigma competency area. You’ll develop an understanding of what is involved in becoming a Lean Thinker, understand the purpose of Lean and Six Sigma, learn to see waste and problems, and connect to customer value.

Print Reading for Machine Tool (MCHT 1012) – 45 hours
March 9-May 9, 2023 (M-TH) | 5pm – 7pm
Introduces the fundamental concepts necessary to develop blueprint reading competencies, interpret drawings, and produce sketches for machine tool applications. Topics include interpretation of blueprints, sketching, sectioning, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, and assembly drawings

Live, Learn, Work, and Thrive in Southern Crescent – 3 hours
March 7, 2023 (Tuesday) | 4pm-7pm
This course will explore the history of the 8 county Southern Crescent region, and the benefits of working, and living in the region. Southern Crescent is home to three higher education institutions, a strong K-12 system, beautiful neighborhoods and homes, and employers that provide strong competitive wages in industry sectors that are considered among the best in Georgia and the southeast.

  • Industry Ready Computer Numerical Control Pathway will enroll a maximum of 12 participants.
  • Classes will run over an 8-week period.
  • Classes will begin March 7, 2023 and end May 9, 2023.
  • Delivery format is Hybrid (online and in-person)
  • Classes will be held at SCTC’s Griffin Campus.
  • Participants must start and complete the entire program in one sitting.
  • Participants who successfully complete the Print Reading for Machine course with a passing grade of C or higher will earn 3 college credits (MCHT 1012).
  • Participants who successfully complete Lean Six Sigma course will earn an industry recognized credential.


Entrepreneurship

The High-Demand Industry-Ready Entrepreneurship Pathway Pre-Apprenticeship program includes 56 hours of theory and hands-on skills training. It provides individuals with a career pathway into Southern Crescent Technical College’s academic programs and an introduction to the fundamental concepts and skills required for entry-level positions in high demand industry sectors in SCTC’s eight county service area. Through SCTC’s Entrepreneurship programs, individuals are able to explore and train for careers in business, finance, marketing, sales and human resources.

April 22, 2023 (Saturday) | 7:30am -3:30pm
This course serves as a solid first step in providing you with insight into the Lean Six Sigma competency area. You’ll develop an understanding of what is involved in becoming a Lean Thinker, understand the purpose of Lean and Six Sigma, learn to see waste and problems, and connect to customer value.

Business Plan Development (MGMT 2145) – 45 hours
March 9-May 9, 2023 (M-TH) | 5pm – 7pm
Provides individuals with knowledge and skills necessary for a manager or entrepreneur to develop and implement a business plan. Topics include: business/community compatibility, introduction to cash flow and break-even analysis, development of product/service idea, determination of market feasibility, determination of financial feasibility, development of marketing strategy, development of operations outline, and application of financial concepts.

Live, Learn, Work, and Thrive in Southern Crescent – 3 hours
March 7, 2023 (Tuesday) | 4pm-7pm
This course will explore the history of the 8 county Southern Crescent region, and the benefits of working, and living in the region. Southern Crescent is home to three higher education institutions, a strong K-12 system, beautiful neighborhoods and homes, and employers that provide strong competitive wages in industry sectors that are considered among the best in Georgia and the southeast.

  • Industry Ready Entrepreneurship Pathway will enroll a maximum of 30 participants.
  • Classes will run over an 8-week period.
  • Classes will begin March 7, 2023 and end May 9, 2023.
  • Delivery format is Hybrid (online and in-person)
  • Classes will be held at SCTC’s Henry County Center.
  • Participants must start and complete the entire program in one sitting.
  • Participants who successfully complete the Business Plan Development course with a passing grade of C or higher will earn 3 college credits (MGMT 2145).
  • Participants who successfully complete Lean Six Sigma course, will earn an industry recognized credential.


Logistics & Distribution

The High-Demand Industry-Ready Logistics & Distribution Pathway Pre-Apprenticeship program includes 56 hours of theory and hands-on skills training. It provides individuals with a career pathway into Southern Crescent Technical College’s academic programs and an introduction to the fundamental concepts and skills required for entry-level positions in high demand industry sectors in SCTC’s eight county service area. Through SCTC’s Logistics & Distribution programs, individuals are able to explore and train for careers in distribution transportation and storage management, supply chain management, and industrial production management.

April 29, 2023 (Saturday) | 7:30am -3:30pm
This course serves as a solid first step in providing you with insight into the Lean Six Sigma competency area. You’ll develop an understanding of what is involved in becoming a Lean Thinker, understand the purpose of Lean and Six Sigma, learn to see waste and problems, and connect to customer value.

Introduction to Supply Chain Management (SCMA 1000) – 45 hours
March 9-May 9, 2023 (M-TH) | 5pm – 7pm
This course provides a general knowledge of Supply Chain Management (SCM) and the associated functions necessary for delivering goods and services to customers. The course will focus on what individuals and managers must do to ensure an effective Supply Chain exists in their organization. Topics include: Introduction to SCM, E-Commerce, Material Management, Information Technology, Measuring SCM performance, Purchasing and Distribution, and Research and Case Studies.

Live, Learn, Work, and Thrive in Southern Crescent – 3 hours
March 8, 2023 (Wednesday) | 4pm-7pm
This course will explore the history of the 8 county Southern Crescent region, and the benefits of working, and living in the region. Southern Crescent is home to three higher education institutions, a strong K-12 system, beautiful neighborhoods and homes, and employers that provide strong competitive wages in industry sectors that are considered among the best in Georgia and the southeast.

  • Industry Ready Logistics and Distribution Pathway will enroll a maximum of 20 participants per cohort.
  • Two cohorts (one per campus) will run on for this pathway. Individuals may choose only one cohort location to attend all classes.
  • Classes will run over an 8-week period.
  • Classes will begin March 8, 2023 and end May 9, 2023.
  • Delivery format is Hybrid (online and in-person)
  • Classes will be held at SCTC’s
    • Henry County Center
    • Jasper County Center.
  • Participants must start and complete the entire program in one sitting.
  • Participants who successfully complete the Introduction to Supply Chain Management course with a passing grade of C or higher will earn 3 college credits (SCMA 1000).
  • Participants who successfully complete Lean Six Sigma course, will earn an industry recognized credential.


Mechatronics

The High-Demand Industry-Ready Mechatronics Pathway Pre-Apprenticeship program includes 61 hours of theory and hands-on skills training. It provides individuals with a career pathway into Southern Crescent Technical College’s academic programs and an introduction to the fundamental concepts and skills required for entry-level positions in high demand industry sectors in SCTC’s eight county service area. Through SCTC’s Mechatronics program, individuals are able to explore and train for careers in robotics engineering, automation engineering, control system design, electronics design, mechanical design, data scientist, instrumentation engineer and software engineer.

DC Circuit Analysis (IDSY1101) – 50 hours (10 Lab/40 Lecture)
March 9-May 9, 2023 (M-TH) | 5pm – 7pmThis course introduces direct current (DC) concepts and applications. Topics include: electrical principles and laws; batteries; DC test equipment; Series, parallel, and simple combination circuits; and laboratory
procedures and safety practices.

Live, Learn, Work, and Thrive in Southern Crescent – 3 hours
March 6, 2023 (Monday) | 4pm-7pmThis course will explore the history of the 8 county Southern Crescent region, and the benefits of working, and living in the region. Southern Crescent is home to three higher education institutions, a strong K-12
system, beautiful neighborhoods and homes, and employers that provide strong competitive wages in industry sectors that are considered among the best in Georgia and the southeast.

  • Industry Ready Mechatronics Technology Pathway will enroll a maximum of 20 participants per cohort.
  • Two cohorts (one per campus) will run on for this pathway. Students may choose only one cohort location to attend all classes.
  • Classes will run over an 8-week period.
  • Classes will begin March 6, 2023 and end May 9, 2023.
  • Delivery format is Hybrid (online and in-person)
  • Classes will be held at SCTC’s
    • Butts County Center
    • Flint River Campus.
  • Participants must start and complete the entire program in one sitting.
  • Participants who successfully complete the DC Circuit Analysis with a passing grade of C or higher will earn 3 college credits (IDSY 1101).
  • Participants who successfully complete Lean Six Sigma course will earn an industry recognized credential.
