SCTC Foundation Awards 79 Scholarships for Fall Semester

The Southern Crescent Technical College Foundation awarded 79 scholarships totaling $39,550 for students enrolled in the College for Spring Semester 202314.
Of those, the Foundation awarded 35 Internal Tiger Campaign scholarships totaling $12,000. Internal scholarships are funded through contributions from the SCTC faculty and staff primarily through monthly payroll deductions to the Internal Fundraising Campaign. In addition, the Foundation awarded 44 external scholarships totaling $27,550. External scholarships are funded through contributions from business partners, foundations and generous donors within our service community, as well as SCTC faculty and staff for program-specific scholarships not included in the Internal Tiger Campaign.
Scholarship applications for Summer semester 2023 will be available online from January 1 to January 31, 2023 at https://www.sctech.edu/foundation/foundation-scholarships/.

The Tiger Campaign GED/Advancement-to-College Textbook and Toolbox Scholarship is a $250 textbook & toolbox scholarship awarded to a recent Southern Crescent Technical College GED graduate (completed within the last 24 months) who is enrolled at Southern Crescent Technical College. The scholarship is for the purchase of program-required textbooks, tools, uniforms, equipment, and/or supplies. The Foundation awarded four $250 scholarships for a total of $1,000. The students receiving scholarships for Spring 2023 Semester are:

The Tiger Campaign High School-to-College Textbook & Toolbox Scholarship is a $250 scholarship awarded to a recent high school graduate (graduated within the last 24 months) who is enrolled at Southern Crescent Technical College. The scholarship is for the purchase of program-required textbooks & tools, uniforms, equipment, and/or supplies. The Foundation awarded three $250 scholarships for a total of $750. The Tiger Campaign XeniaNATORS Tuition Scholarship is a $900 tuition scholarship for a student who is not eligible for the HOPE Grant/Scholarship, WIOA and/or the Pell Grant and/or any other financial aid. The Tiger Campaign XeniaNATORS Tuition Scholarship is named in honor of the winning team for the Internal Tiger Campaign for Southern Crescent Technical College. The Foundation awarded five $900 scholarships for a total of $4,500. The students receiving scholarships for Spring 2023 Semester are:

The Becky Parris Rector Nursing Scholarship is a $300 tuition scholarship for a Nursing student that is a single parent. Becky Parris Rector earned her ADN from a technical college while raising two children under the age of six. She sacrificed so much to stay in school while caring for her children and working part-time to make ends meet. Her degree enabled her to continually lift her family up and support them her entire career. The Foundation awarded one $300 scholarship for 2023 Spring Semester to:

The Cooper Family Culinary Arts Tuition Scholarship is a $250 scholarship awarded to a student in the Culinary Arts program, currently enrolled part-time or full-time in good academic standing. The Dr. Alvetta P. Thomas Tuition Scholarship is a $250 tuition scholarship for a student in a certificate, diploma, or degree program at Southern Crescent Technical College. Dr. Thomas was the President of Southern Crescent Technical College from 2016-2021, and throughout her professional career, she was a champion for students. By supporting the mission and vision of the College through workforce development, Dr. Thomas took pride in building strong students, strong careers, and strong communities. The Elmer L. Peters Memorial Law Enforcement Officer Tuition, Textbook and Toolbox Scholarship is a $500 scholarship for a degree-seeking student in Criminal Justice Technology. Student must also be a post-certified officer currently serving in a law enforcement position. Established in memory of Elmer L. Peters, who retired after 25 years with the City of Dayton, Ohio, Police Department and 13 years with the Dekalb County Sheriff’s Office in Smithville, Tennessee, this scholarship reflects his firm support of higher education, and his thought that professional police officers need professional level education and training. Mr. Peters passed away May 2013. This scholarship is for tuition and the purchase of program-required textbooks & tools, uniforms, equipment, and/or supplies. The Gene Haas Foundation Machine Tool Tuition, Technology Textbook & Toolbox Scholarship is a $500 scholarship awarded with $250 in tuition and $250 for the purchase of program-required textbooks & tools, uniforms, equipment, and/or supplies for a student in the Machine Tool Technology program. The Foundation awarded one $500 scholarship for 2022 Fall Semester to:

The Griffin Utility Club ASN Tuition, Textbook and Toolbox Scholarship is a $500 tuition, textbook and toolbox scholarship for a female ASN student who is a Spalding County resident and enrolled in Southern Crescent Technical College. $250 of the funds will be applied to tuition, and $250 will be applied to the bookstore for course-required textbooks and/or tools. The Griffin Utility Club was a former service organization that supported the needs of Spalding County and especially the Nursing needs. The Justin Peeples Memorial Computer Information Systems Textbook and Toolbox Scholarship is a $250 scholarship awarded to a student in the Computer Information Systems program for the purchase of program-required textbooks and tools, uniforms, equipment, and/or supplies. This scholarship was established in memory of Justin Peeples, a Computer Network Specialist student at Southern Crescent Technical College who died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in 2011. The Lespedeza Fund Scholarship, honoring the memory of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Allen and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Johnson, is a $1,000 tuition, textbook & toolbox need-based scholarship awarded to a first-generation student (defined as a student whose parent(s)/legal guardian(s) have not completed a degree or any education beyond high school, and are the first in their family to attend college to attain a certificate, diploma or degree) enrolled in one of the following programs: Allied Health, Business Technology, Criminal Justice, Industrial Systems Technology, and Logistics and Supply Chain Management. The Martin/Kimbrough “Red Jellybean” Memorial Cosmetology Textbook and Toolbox Scholarship is a $250 textbook and toolbox scholarship awarded to a student in a Cosmetology or Nail Technology program. The scholarship was established in memory of Carol Martin and Charlene Kimbrough. The Foundation awarded one $250 scholarship for Spring 2023 Semester to:

The Rotary Club of Peachtree City Scholarship is a $250 textbook & toolbox scholarship for the purchase of program-related required textbooks & tools, uniforms, equipment, licensure examinations, and/or supplies for a student who lives in Fayette County and is enrolled in a certificate, diploma, or degree program. The applicant must be a resident of Fayette County, have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher, and be in good academic standing. The Foundation awarded four $250 scholarships for a total of $1,000. The Schyla Avery Memorial Textbook & Toolbox Scholarship is a $250 scholarship awarded for students pursuing a degree in Respiratory Care. This scholarship was established in memory of Schyla Nicole Avery, who received an AAS degree in Respiratory Care from the College, and died in a tragic house fire in 2011. The Foundation awarded two $250 scholarships for a total of $500. The students receiving scholarships for Spring 2023 Semester are:

This scholarship was established in memory of Trevor Alexander, an Assessment Specialist at the College, who died of cancer in August 2013.
