SCTC Gears Up for 2024 Graduation Ceremony

Southern Crescent Technical College President Dr. Irvin Clark has announced that the College will host the annual commencement ceremony on Friday, May 10, 2024, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church – North Campus in Fayetteville, Georgia.  The graduation ceremonies will honor nearly 500 credit and adult education graduates from Summer 2023, Fall 2023, and Spring 2024 semesters.

The speaker for the 10 am ceremony will be Edward Johnson, Mayor of Fayetteville, Georgia. Johnson has been a Fayetteville elected official since January 2012, serving first as a city councilman and then as mayor since January 2016. In 2022, Johnson received the Mayor of the Year Award as a part of the Georgia Minority Business Awards. A native of New Orleans, Louisiana, Johnson is a retired U.S. Navy commander and educator who now serves as full-time pastor of Flat Rock African Methodist Episcopal Church in the Fayetteville area. Graduates from all Allied Health, Arts and Sciences, and Computer Information Systems programs will participate in this ceremony.

The speaker for the 2 pm ceremony will be Niki Vanderslice, President and CEO of the Fayette County Development Authority.  With over 20 years of experience in Community & Economic Development, she is a champion for new, expanding, and existing businesses and understands the importance of technical education to economic development in this region.  Prior to her current role, Niki was the Executive Director of Business Development and External Affairs for the Technical College System of Georgia’s Quick Start program. Graduates from Business, Film Technology, Professional Services, First Responder, Technical and Industrial Technology Programs, as well as Adult Education programs will participate in this ceremony.

Clark stated, “We are excited to celebrate the accomplishments and achievements of our graduates and thrilled to have two accomplished individuals and advocates for technical education address the graduates.  I understand the challenges, hard work and dedication that come with being a student at Southern Crescent Technical College, and we cannot wait to share in the excitement as each graduate reaches this most-important milestone in his or her educational journey.”
