NAVIGATING THE FALL CAREER FAIR

The Fall Career Fair will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 on the Griffin Campus in the Event Center from 11:00am to 1:00pm.

This event will feature over 60 local employers seeking to fill available positions with their organization.   Employers use the Career Fair as an opportunity to meet many candidates and determine who would be the best fit for future interviews.

For Southern Crescent students and alumni, the Career Fair is an excellent way to network with organizations of interest and learn about other companies that could be viable places of employment.

Who Can Attend the Fall Career Fair?

The event is FREE and open to all students and alumni of Southern Crescent Technical College.

Why Should I Attend the Fall Career Fair?

Because often times in life "it's not what you know but who you know." The Fall Career Fair is an excellent opportunity for students and alumni to:

• Identify employment opportunities
• Expand your network
• Learn industry information
• Land a full-time career or internship

How should I prepare for Career Fair?

Dress professionally/neatly!
This is your opportunity to make a lasting first impression on important people in companies by dressing for success.

Have a well-written resume.
Separate yourself from the rest of the job hunters with an organized, well-written resume that professionally displays your education, skills and experience. Start by accessing the Resume Builder in TIGERLINK to develop your resume.

Prepare to ask intelligent and important questions.
This will really knock 'em dead! Asking intelligent questions shows that you are serious about your job search, and in doing so, you will gain a tremendous amount of respect from the employer. Researching websites of employers you plan to target at the Career Fair can help you develop good questions to ask.

Does the job search end at the Fall Career Fair?

Following up with recruiters is one of the most important things job fair participants can do immediately after the job fair. Sending a personalized thank you note to each recruiter identifies you as a thoughtful and serious job candidate that they will want to get to know better.
By restating your interests in the company and your qualifications, you will put yourself on their radar screen when they are in the process of seeking candidates to interview for future positions that open up. You may decide to enclose another copy of your resume with your letter to ensure that the employer has your information available. Following up a thank you letter with a phone call can also increase your chances of being called back for an interview.

EMPLOYER RESOURCES

HIRE A TIGER!

We are eager to establish and cultivate relationships with employers who are looking for full-time employees and/or those who offer part-time, summer/seasonal, temporary, and internship opportunities suited for soon-to-be or recent college graduates. Southern Crescent Technical College offers employers cost-effective ways to recruit potential employees. Recruitment options that are available to employers include on-going job listing services, career fairs, informal on-campus recruitment, in-class information sessions, and apprenticeships.

POST JOBS AND INTERNSHIPS

TIGERLINK is a free online recruiting system that helps you connect to Southern Crescent Technical College students, graduating seniors, and alumni. Employers are able to post open full-time jobs, part-time jobs, internships, externships, and summer/seasonal/temporary jobs.

+HOW POSITIONS ARE ADVERTISED TO STUDENTS & ALUMNI

Students and alumni are able to view all job and internship postings when they sign into TIGERLINK. All students and alumni have access to TIGERLINK.  The most current positions continuously rotate on the Career Services page.

Several postings are highlighted each week to be included in our weekly student job blast sent to over 6,000 students and alumni and in our weekly e-newsletter sent to faculty and staff.

ANNUAL CAREER FAIR

Our next Annual Career Fair will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2019.

Registration is required for all employers. Please complete the Employer Registration Form to participate in the upcoming Fall Career Fair at Southern Crescent Technical College.

INFORMATION TABLE/HIRING EVENT

An Information Table/Hiring Event is an opportunity for employers to have a one-on-one conversation with job seekers in an informal environment. This offers an excellent way to recruit for positions that do not require a specific skill set. We will provide a table in the main corridor of the Griffin campus. Your visit will be promoted to students beforehand if it is scheduled at least two weeks before the date of the visit.

IN-CLASS INFORMATION SESSION

An in-class information session can be useful for generating interest in your organization as well as the positions you would like to fill. Employers are able to present their organization to the students in their field of interest and network with potential applicants in a casual setting.

LUNCH & LEARN

Lunch and Learns are great for employers looking to recruit students in a specific industry. These sessions provide you with the opportunity to share an overview about your company along with career pathways that are offered. Employers get a chance to meet and talk with students about career opportunities. The Career Services office will notify students of your event through on-campus ads, social media postings, TIGERLINK, and other information outlets.

APPRENTICESHIPS

An apprenticeship provides a customized training program that meets the specific needs of your business. In developing the program, you work with SCTC to determine the skills you want your workers to have and then design the training to meet those needs. The classroom training is then reinforced through on-the-job learning where the apprentices are taught by an experienced mentor from your company. The end result is a highly skilled worker who is trained not only in their craft, but in your company’s culture.

FACULTY/STAFF RESOURCES

TIGERLINK FOR FACULTY/STAFF

We use TIGERLINK, a web-based Career Services Management System linking students to job databases, internship opportunities, a resume builder and more. If you would like to view the jobs available to students at Southern Crescent Technical College, please sign in using your SCTC email address and password.
