NAVIGATING THE FALL CAREER FAIR
The Fall Career Fair will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 on the Griffin Campus in the Event Center from 11:00am to 1:00pm.
This event will feature over 60 local employers seeking to fill available positions with their organization. Employers use the Career Fair as an opportunity to meet many candidates and determine who would be the best fit for future interviews.
For Southern Crescent students and alumni, the Career Fair is an excellent way to network with organizations of interest and learn about other companies that could be viable places of employment.
The event is FREE and open to all students and alumni of Southern Crescent Technical College.
Because often times in life "it's not what you know but who you know." The Fall Career Fair is an excellent opportunity for students and alumni to:
• Identify employment opportunities
• Expand your network
• Learn industry information
• Land a full-time career or internship
This is your opportunity to make a lasting first impression on important people in companies by dressing for success.
Have a well-written resume.
Separate yourself from the rest of the job hunters with an organized, well-written resume that professionally displays your education, skills and experience. Start by accessing the Resume Builder in TIGERLINK to develop your resume.
Prepare to ask intelligent and important questions.
This will really knock 'em dead! Asking intelligent questions shows that you are serious about your job search, and in doing so, you will gain a tremendous amount of respect from the employer. Researching websites of employers you plan to target at the Career Fair can help you develop good questions to ask.
Following up with recruiters is one of the most important things job fair participants can do immediately after the job fair. Sending a personalized thank you note to each recruiter identifies you as a thoughtful and serious job candidate that they will want to get to know better.
By restating your interests in the company and your qualifications, you will put yourself on their radar screen when they are in the process of seeking candidates to interview for future positions that open up. You may decide to enclose another copy of your resume with your letter to ensure that the employer has your information available. Following up a thank you letter with a phone call can also increase your chances of being called back for an interview.
