Academic Advisement

Southern Crescent Technical College recognizes that academic advisement is essential to student success.

Our college will guide students through the enrollment and advisement process so that students can achieve their career and educational goals. Each semester, the student will follow three steps:

  • Using DegreeWorks audit, verify the completion of prior courses and overall program completion. New students will only have prior courses if courses are transferred to the college.
  • Using the Program Completion Checklist, identify courses necessary to achieve academic and career goals.
  • Register for the chosen classes in self-registration using Tiger Portal. Academic Advising is available to assist if necessary.

MISSION STATEMENT

Our college will provide accessible and comprehensive academic advisement with an emphasis on course completion and graduation.

SCTC ADVISING MODEL

By enrolling here at SCTC, you’ve shown that you know how important education is to your success. We employ a partnership structure for academic advisement. This model begins with advising responsibilities between the student and an academic advisor, then moves over to a faculty member within the student’s program. During their first semester of enrollment, students receive guidance from academic advisors. As they progress and complete their general education core classes, they will transition to faculty advisors. This system is designed to support the needs of programs that require specific prerequisite courses. Academic Advisors are located on campus in the Advisement Center on the Griffin and Flint River campuses as well as the Henry Center.
